I am a landscape photographer traveling to our wonderful national parks and other public lands. I like getting a painterly look with a lot of depth. I lean towards peaceful and quiet images, although the occasional sublime shot is fun.
I am influenced by the romantic Hudson River School of painting and the Photo Secession movement. The Hudson River School flourished during the mid-19 century and depicted the American landscape in a very attractive way. The Photo Secession movement of the early 20th century focused on photography as an art form.
I get my best shots with a lot of planning and visiting the same location many times. A great photograph rarely comes from showing up to a spot and taking a shot. The light, weather, season and many other things go into a great shot. This means a lot of planning and visiting the same location over and over again hoping that everything comes together all at one time.
I am a member of Viewpoint Photographic Art Gallery in Sacramento. Here are my recent showings. The ones in bold have received an award.
